Defenestration

A film co-produced by TV Arte, ÖRF and Czech Television to be shown simultaneously in several European countries on 23 May 2018, four hundred years to the day of the events which launched the Czech Estates uprising and led to the unleashing of the Thirty Years’ War. The historical drama feature-film charts the main events leading up to the conflict, right up to the Battle of White Mountain and the execution of 27 Czech Nobles on the Old Town Square. The main heroes of the film are three charismatic men: the leader of the rebels, Count Jindřich Matyáš Thurn; the ‘Winter King’ Frederick V, Elector Palatine; and the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II. Equally significant roles are reserved in the film for their no-less charismatic life-partners.
