The life of Dr Jaroslav Preiss, the most notable Czech banker. Jaroslav Preiss (1870-1946) was the associate and banker of T.G. Masaryk, and a friend of the prominent Czechoslovak personages of that time. In addition to being one of the most powerful men of the Czech banking sector, he was also an important patron and philanthropist. Kosatík follows the life story of this Chief Executive of Živnostenská Banka, nicknamed ‘the powder-tower shark’ who turned down becoming a Minister, and whose assets were seized after the war by the Communists, who dubbed him a public enemy.
